The Primitives

The historical group (1962 London)
is a top representative of the British panorama of the music of the 60ies;
they expressed a synthesis of rythm'n'blues and rock progressive quite
advanced as compared to the times. Dave Sumner, historical guitar and one of
the Primitives founders, has recreated a group wishing to re-found the
spirit and the original sound of the band. Their music is a regenerating
immersion in the immortal feeling of that unforgettable season.
The Primitives were set up
thanks to Geoffrey Robert Farthing, bass guitar, better known as Jay Roberts.
During an exhibition in Soho they were noticed by two Italians who were
there on vacation, Gianni Boncompagni and Alberigo Crocetta, (the Piper’s
owner). They offered the group a contract for some shows in Italy where they
debuted at the end of 1965 at Rome Piper, the most trendy night club for the
Italian beat.
In the artistic panorama of those years they expressed their own strength as
a group and occupied an important place as fathers of genders such as
“progressive”; they could count on great instrumentalists as (not everybody
knows it)Pick Whithers, the Dire Straits’ drummer.
Their success made
them realize their first record for the recording house Piper, (distributed
by ARC, an RCA satellite recording house) titled Blow Up, with some songs
recorded life - i.e. Every minute of every day, Gimme some loving by the
Spencer Davis Group, the band of the young Stevie Winwood, Standing in the
shadows of love, and two translations of Luigi Tenco and Sergio Bardotti
Thunder'n lightnin' (which became Johnny no) and I ain't gonna eat my heart
anymore, coming out also on vinyl 45 tours under the title of Yeeeeeeh!
which turned out a big hit.
The band is now lively and not nostalgically revisiting the soul-rock of the sixties.
The concert lasts 2 hours
